Minecraft Bedrock 26.70.20 Preview: Best New Features (October 2026)

Mojang has released Minecraft Bedrock 26.70.20 Preview (October 13, 2026) — the newest test build on the road to the 2026 Winter Drop. It follows 26.60.30 (October 6) and packs the freshest batch of Drop 4 features yet. Read the official changelog on minecraft.net for the full developer notes.

What’s new in Minecraft Bedrock 26.70.20 Preview

  • Brittle Ice — a fragile new block that cracks when you (or most mobs) stand on it. After three cracks it breaks completely. It doesn’t melt, generates naturally in cold areas, and can also form when water flows next to Blue Ice. Cracking or breaking it releases ice particles and emits vibrations that can trigger nearby sculk sensors. Watch your step — if you don’t move off in time, you fall through.
  • Ice Cave crevasses — narrow, winding ravines now generate throughout the Ice Cave biome, with Brittle Ice covering the surface and water pools at their base. They may or may not have water at the bottom — bring a bucket.
  • Jukebox Playlists — place a Chest, Trapped Chest, or any Copper Chest directly on top of a jukebox, fill it with music discs, and the jukebox plays them in slot order (skipping empty slots and non-disc items), looping back to the start. Ejecting the current disc advances the playlist. No more manual disc-swapping for long music sessions.
  • Nether Spawning Rebalancing (experimental) — a new experiment that reduces mob density and adjusts fortress spawning to more closely resemble Java Edition.

Carried over from earlier previews (Winter Drop features)

These arrived with 26.60.29 and are still being tested in Minecraft Bedrock 26.70.20 Preview:

  • Ice Caves — a new cave biome under cold Overworld biomes, with packed ice, calcite, hanging icicles, and glowing ice crystals.
  • Frostbite zombie — a new zombie variant in icy biomes and ice caves. Attacks in melee (applying the Freezing effect) and throws ice balls at range. Notably, Frostbites can stand on Brittle Ice without cracking it.

A note on versions

26.70.20 is a Preview (beta) build — great for testing upcoming features, but expect bugs. The latest stable release is Bedrock 26.52 (September 25, 2026 hotfix). For the most reliable experience, stable is the safer choice; for the Winter Drop features early, grab the preview. The full Winter Drop (Ice Caves and all) is expected in Q4 2026 — Mojang hasn’t confirmed a date yet. Found a bug? Report it at bugs.mojang.com or leave feedback at feedback.minecraft.net. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Minecraft Preview 26.70.20 free?

The preview itself is free to download and play. This site’s download button always gives the newest version available here, free.

Does Brittle Ice melt?

No. Unlike regular ice, Brittle Ice never melts — but it cracks under your weight and breaks after three cracks.

How do Jukebox Playlists work?

Place any chest directly on top of a jukebox and fill it with music discs. The jukebox plays them in slot order and loops.

Is 26.70.20 stable or beta?

It’s a beta/preview build. Expect bugs; worlds can occasionally break. Stable players should stay on Bedrock 26.52.

Should you try the Minecraft Bedrock 26.70.20 Preview? If you enjoy testing new features early and don’t mind the occasional bug, it is a fun way to see where the game is heading — just back up your worlds before installing any beta build, since preview versions can occasionally corrupt saves. If you’d rather play it safe, the stable release remains the better choice, and every preview feature will eventually land there once it is polished and ready.
