New to Minecraft, or coming back after a break? These are the tips we wish every player knew on day one: surviving your first nights, keeping the game smooth on a budget phone, building better, and staying safe with APK files. Each section points to a full guide on our blog.
Survive Your First Nights
- Punch wood first. Wood becomes planks, sticks, a crafting table, and your first tools — everything starts there.
- Build a shelter before dark. Night brings hostile mobs; even a small dirt hut with a door keeps you alive.
- Craft a bed early. Sleeping skips the night and sets your spawn point, so dying does not send you back to the world spawn.
- Never dig straight down. You can fall into caves or lava. Dig a staircase, or two blocks at a time, instead.
Our first-night survival guide walks you through the whole first day, hour by hour.
Keep the Game Smooth on Any Phone
- Lower your render distance. It is the single biggest performance lever on low-end devices.
- Turn off fancy graphics, clouds, and smooth lighting if the game stutters.
- Keep at least 2 GB of free storage, and close background apps before long sessions.
- Play the newest version you can — recent updates include performance fixes.

Build and Craft Smarter
- Light everything up. Torches stop hostile mobs from spawning in and around your builds.
- Set up an enchanting table early — enchanted tools and armor change the whole game.
- Use portals as fast travel between your base, the Nether, and far-away builds.
Our enchanting table setup guide shows the exact bookshelf layout, our portals guide covers every portal type, and the best biomes guide helps you pick where to settle.
Stay Safe With APK Files
- Only download from sources you trust, and check the file’s version and size against the information on the download page.
- Back up your worlds before updating or installing a new file. An update should never cost you a world.
- Be suspicious of any site promising paid features for free, or version numbers that cannot be confirmed in official announcements. If a version cannot be verified, it is not real.
